Mpumalanga’s Community Safety and Security Liaison Department is urging motorists to exercise caution on the province’s roads, citing heavy rainfall and rising traffic volumes in key areas.

The province serves as a major route to neighbouring Mozambique and the Kingdom of eSwatini, and authorities expect traffic to increase significantly from next Friday.

Motorists have been reminded to adhere to road safety rules and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.

Department spokesperson Moeti Mmusi said law enforcement efforts would be intensified across the province during the festive season.

“Many people will be attending weddings, family gatherings, and end-of-year functions. This will increase traffic volumes and could lead to a rise in incidents of drinking and driving,” Mmusi warned.

Authorities are calling on drivers to plan their journeys carefully and prioritise safety to reduce accidents during the holiday period.
