Closing arguments in the Enyobeni Tavern Inquest are expected to proceed on Wednesday in the East London Regional Court, sitting in Mdantsane. The proceedings aim to determine whether anyone should be held legally accountable for the deaths of 21 young people at the Scenery Park venue in 2022.
Nearly two years after the tragedy, families are still searching for answers. Ntombizonke Mgangala, who lost her child that night, expressed frustration over missing documents that she believes could clarify critical details.
She says the gaps in information have left her unsettled. “There is this issue of missing documents or information that is delaying the closing arguments. It leaves me with many unanswered questions… but I am patiently waiting to hear what they are going to say.”
The court is expected to hear submissions from all parties as the inquest draws closer to its conclusion.
