A woman has died following a fiery crash on the M4 Ruth First Highway near the M41 off-ramp in Umhlanga, north of Durban. The cause of the early-morning accident remains under investigation.
According to Gareth Naidoo of KZN VIP Medics, emergency responders arrived to find the vehicle completely engulfed in flames. A man and a woman were trapped inside.
“Crews managed to free one of the occupants, but sadly could not reach the second,” Naidoo said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the woman showed no signs of life and was declared dead at the scene.
The surviving occupant was stabilised before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care. Authorities are probing the circumstances surrounding the crash.
