KwaZulu-Natal police say a manhunt for a suspect linked to a deadly stabbing spree in Umzinto on the south coast has concluded after the man was discovered dead. The attacks, which unfolded on Saturday night in the Malangeni Phase 2 area, left five people dead including the suspect’s 32-year-old partner.

Provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said the violence began at the couple’s home, where the woman was found with multiple stab wounds following an alleged argument.

The suspect then fled the scene and is believed to have attacked two men, aged 53 and 58, on a nearby road.

“Police later received reports of two additional victims, aged 37 and 51, who were stabbed and died from their injuries upon arrival at a local clinic,” Netshiunda said. “Preliminary investigations suggest all the attacks were carried out by the same suspect. The motive remains under investigation.”

Officers later found the suspect’s body in bushes not far from the crime scenes and believe he may have taken his own life.

Police investigations are continuing.
