Authorities have launched an investigation after a male foetus was discovered dumped in a bush in Westham, Phoenix, on Wednesday afternoon.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called to Yorkham Place after drug users searching for scrap metal stumbled upon the remains. When officers arrived, paramedics from a private ambulance service were already on scene.
The foetus, still with its umbilical cord attached, was found inside a black plastic bag. The area where it was discovered is frequently used by residents as an informal dumping site.
Police are expected to conduct a forensic investigation as efforts begin to trace the mother and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
