With Black Friday in full swing, authorities are warning shoppers to brace for heavy traffic and congestion around malls and retail hubs, urging the public to remain vigilant amid heightened safety risks.

Officials have cautioned that crowded shopping areas create opportunities for pickpockets, and are advising consumers to keep valuables secure and stay alert while moving through busy spaces.

Those opting to shop online are encouraged to use reputable, accredited websites. Shoppers are warned not to click on unfamiliar links or suspicious “too good to be true” offers circulating via SMS or WhatsApp, and to instead type retailers’ web addresses directly into their browsers.

Additional safety reminders include avoiding large amounts of cash, ensuring vehicles are properly locked, staying wary of people lingering near ATMs, and keeping a close watch on elderly or vulnerable companions.

Authorities say simple precautions can help ensure a safer shopping experience as Black Friday activity peaks.
