A new witness is expected to take the stand on Tuesday as hearings at the Madlanga Commission resume in Pretoria.
Proceedings were adjourned last Thursday after the testimony of businessman Brown Mogotsi, whose appearance sparked controversy over a series of unsubstantiated allegations. Mogotsi claimed, among other things, that KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi was a Central Intelligence Agency operative a statement he later admitted was based on hearsay and for which he provided no evidence.
He also told the commission he served as an Umkhonto weSizwe operative between 1993 and 1995, a claim challenged by Commissioner Sandile Khumalo, who noted that MK was formally disbanded in 1993.
While Mogotsi will not return to the commission on Tuesday, officials say he is expected to reappear at a later date still to be confirmed.
