Proceedings in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial were delayed on Thursday after one of the accused, Fisokuhle Ntuli, alleged he had been assaulted by prison officials.

Ntuli, who is accused number five in the trial, arrived late at the High Court in Pretoria, claiming that officials at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre attacked him after he attempted to contact his lawyers on Wednesday.

He told the court that the alleged assault led him to refuse to leave his prison cell to attend Thursday’s hearing.

Presiding Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng has since ordered that Ntuli be taken to a medical facility for treatment and observation.

The trial, which concerns the 2014 murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa, has been postponed until Friday.
