A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Greytown Regional Court this week for the rape of his eight-year-old daughter.

According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Siyabonga Nkwanyana, the incident occurred within the Greytown policing precinct. The man arrived at a home where the child was living with her aunt, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, and demanded that the child sleep in his room.

Nkwanyana stated, "Upon questioning her, the child revealed that she had been raped by her father. A case of rape was immediately opened and assigned to a dedicated detective, Sergeant Richard Gilden of Greytown Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit."

He added, "The accused was swiftly arrested, and a thorough investigation was conducted. All evidence was carefully compiled and presented before court."
