Two former top executives at Transnet have been arrested in connection with a controversial R93-million locomotive tender.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, known as the Hawks, confirmed the arrests and said the individuals are expected to appear in court on Monday.

Former Transnet CEO Brian Molefe and former CEO of Transnet Freight Rail, Siyabonga Gama, voluntarily handed themselves over to authorities.

Their arrests form part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption and procurement irregularities during their tenure at the state-owned freight and logistics company.

Further details are expected to emerge during their court appearance.
