President Cyril Ramaphosa has described his working visit to Canada for the G7 Summit as both "meaningful and constructive," as world leaders gathered against a backdrop of mounting global instability.
The summit, which concluded on Tuesday, took place amid intensifying conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, and escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. Ramaphosa's participation focused on aligning the G7’s global agenda with South Africa’s upcoming G20 Presidency, particularly around energy and infrastructure development.
“In our discussions, we emphasised the urgency of addressing climate change through a just energy transition that takes into account the realities of developing nations,” Ramaphosa said. “We also raised the importance of critical minerals — not just their extraction, but how they are treated, traded, and valued globally.”
With South Africa preparing to lead the G20 in the coming term, the President said the summit provided a crucial platform to advocate for global cooperation on sustainable development, clean energy, and equitable investment in infrastructure.
Ramaphosa’s engagement with the world’s most developed economies comes at a pivotal moment for international diplomacy, as countries seek shared solutions to climate, security, and economic challenges.
