ActionSA has criticised the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), claiming it has failed to show meaningful progress in the fight against corruption. The party says the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act (PCCAA) gives National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Shamila Batohi the authority to act decisively against corrupt prosecutors within the entity.

Delivering a review of the Government of National Unity’s first year in office, ActionSA parliamentary leader Athol Trollip raised serious concerns about the state’s anti-corruption efforts.

“There’s supposed to be a war against corruption in this country, but nobody has seen a single shot fired,” Trollip said. “The blame must be laid squarely at the feet of the NPA and the NDPP. We’ve witnessed them botch prosecution after prosecution.”

Trollip reiterated ActionSA’s call for Batohi’s suspension and for a full investigation into what he termed “criminal elements” within the NPA.

“Connected criminals know they can get away with murder, literally — they know they will evade jail,” he said.

ActionSA's comments reflect growing public frustration over stalled prosecutions in high-profile corruption cases and what critics say is a lack of accountability within key state institutions.
