A man has been arrested following the brutal murder of his grandmother and the attempted murder of his mother at their home in Hexham, Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal.
The violent attack occurred on Monday, 9 June, when the 83-year-old grandmother sustained multiple stab wounds to her head, face, and body. She was declared dead at the scene. The suspect’s mother, who also suffered a slashed throat inflicted with a large butcher knife, remains in critical condition in hospital. Her location is being withheld for safety reasons.
While being treated by paramedics, the critically injured woman identified her son as the attacker, prompting Phoenix SAPS detectives to launch a swift investigation. On Wednesday, statements were taken from members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), who responded to the incident but were not involved in the suspect’s apprehension.
Police have confirmed that the South African Police Service (SAPS) carried out the arrest. Due to the sensitive nature of the case and ongoing investigations, certain details and images are being withheld from the public.
