Two stray lions have been sighted roaming the veld in Plange-Mtititi village, located on the northern boundary of the Kruger National Park (KNP), sparking concern among local residents and livestock farmers.

The lions are believed to have escaped from the Park, which borders the village. According to community spokesperson Isaac Khosa, wildlife rangers were dispatched after the sighting but were unable to locate the animals.

“The lions were seen in the bushes where cattle usually graze, near the Shangoni Gate of the Kruger National Park,” said Khosa. “Authorities responsible for wildlife were notified and conducted a search, but found no trace of the lions. We’re urging our community members to remain vigilant.”

The Department of Environmental Affairs has not yet issued a statement on the matter.

Residents and livestock owners have been advised to exercise caution while authorities continue efforts to track the lions.
