Three suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) robbers were fatally shot in two separate police operations overnight in Marianhill and Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal.
The police action followed a tip-off about alleged gang members hiding out in the Marianhill area. According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), officers approached the location and were met with gunfire from the suspects. Police returned fire, killing two men on the scene.
During the operation, police recovered a firearm believed to have been taken from a security guard during a CIT heist in Richmond earlier this week.
In a separate incident in Inanda township, a third suspect was shot and killed after allegedly resisting arrest and opening fire on officers. Authorities say he is believed to have been part of a syndicate linked to multiple cash-in-transit robberies across the province.
SAPS has confirmed that investigations into the gang's activities are ongoing.
