Malinga Thembekuhle, 23, has been sentenced to 65 years’ direct imprisonment by the Johannesburg High Court after being found guilty on six charges, including robbery, murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The charges stem from an October 2022 incident in Lenasia, where he and an accomplice hijacked a couple, resulting in a crash and a subsequent attempted robbery that ended in a fatal shootout. Police responded swiftly, arresting Thembekuhle at the scene. Johannesburg district commissioner Maj Gen Nonhlanhla Kubheka praised the officers for their teamwork in securing the conviction.
