The bail application for a Limpopo police officer accused of benefitting from a R10 million insurance fraud scheme is expected to continue in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court this morning.
Sergeant Rachel Kutumela, along with her daughter Florah Shokane and sister Anna Shokane, was arrested in October last year in connection with the alleged murder of nine individuals for insurance payouts.
Anna Shokane is scheduled to continue her oral testimony today as part of her bid for bail. Both she and her niece, Florah Shokane, face three murder charges each, as well as multiple counts of money laundering and benefitting from the proceeds of crime.
All three accused have indicated their intention to plead not guilty.
Kutumela initially withdrew her bail application after testifying over three days late last year, but has now resumed the process. Her daughter Florah also previously testified in support of her bail request.
The bail hearing is set to continue over the next three days.
