Power has been fully restored to all areas supplied by the Zwartkop Substation, following an intensive eight-day repair operation led by the City’s energy and electricity department.
Technicians worked tirelessly around the clock to complete a complex cable installation and connection process. However, the most challenging phase came during the modification of the Cable End Box a crucial component that links power cables to the main transformer.
The task was made more difficult by the age of the equipment. Many parts of the end box dated back to 1972, requiring some components to be specially imported from abroad to complete the repair.
The City has thanked residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the prolonged outage, acknowledging the inconvenience it caused.
Customers who may still be without power are urged to report the issue through the City’s standard complaint channels to ensure any isolated faults can be swiftly addressed.
