The bail application for a 29-year-old man accused of raping and impregnating an 11-year-old girl is set to continue today at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court.
The victim, now four months pregnant, was allegedly raped by the accused in December of last year. The suspect, described as a distant family friend, has been in custody since his arrest last month.
Last week, the court granted media permission for audio recording only, citing a late application for filming the proceedings.
The victim's mother discovered her daughter's pregnancy after noticing physical changes. She has expressed strong opposition to the accused being granted bail, arguing he is a flight risk and should remain in custody until the trial.
The victim's family also alleges that this is not the first time the minor has been abused by the accused, claiming the assaults began when the girl was six years old and recurred last December.
DNA tests are pending to confirm the accused's paternity. This remains a developing story.
