The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has moved to dispel rumours circulating on social media that beneficiaries will receive double grant payments next month.

According to several misleading online posts, all grant recipients were expected to receive increased payouts in June to offset the rising cost of living. However, SASSA has firmly rejected these claims, labelling them as false and misleading.

“SASSA can make it clear that there has been no announcement made regarding double grant payments in June,” said spokesperson Andile Tshona. “We appeal to our beneficiaries not to expect any additional payment as stated in various fake news reports, particularly on social media platforms.”

Tshona reminded the public that grant increases were announced by the Ministry of Finance in March, with adjustments implemented in April. A further increase is expected in October, as previously communicated.

“Any other increase not announced by credible and relevant authorities should be treated as lies,” he added.

SASSA has urged the public to rely only on official channels for accurate information regarding social grants.
