A 39-year-old man has died after reportedly being crushed by goods that fell from an overturned truck on the R56 near Richmond, KwaZulu-Natal.
According to police, the incident occurred on Wednesday morning when the truck driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a crash that blocked the roadway. In the aftermath, passersby allegedly began looting goods scattered from the vehicle.
Authorities say a load of food items fell onto the man, who is believed to have been among those taking part in the looting. He was declared dead at the scene.
The road remained closed for several hours as officials responded to the scene and cleared the debris. A police investigation is currently under way to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
