Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) has issued a warning to the public following reports of a scam targeting customers outside a business in the Verulam CBD, KwaZulu-Natal.

According to information received, a group of foreign nationals has been loitering near an autoglass business on Todd Street. The suspects reportedly approach customers entering the premises, falsely claim to be employees, and offer to inspect their vehicles.

Once they gain the customer’s trust, the scammers allegedly accept payments on the street with promises of fitting windscreens at a later time. Victims only realise they’ve been defrauded when they contact the shop for follow-up and are told no such transaction was recorded.

Authorities are urging clients to avoid engaging with anyone outside the business and to ensure all transactions are conducted inside official premises.

RUSA continues to monitor the situation and has asked the public to report any suspicious activity in the area.
