KwaZulu-Natal authorities are calling on residents to remain vigilant as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issues a weather alert for disruptive rainfall across parts of the province. The warning follows severe flooding already affecting Durban and surrounding areas, causing significant traffic delays.
Emergency responders have highlighted several high-risk zones across the city. ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson noted widespread water accumulation, particularly along key commuter routes.
“There are large water puddles across Durban, with the worst conditions reported on the M19 and Umgeni Road under the N2 bridge,” said Jamieson. “Severe waterlogging has also been reported near Riverside, as well as common trouble spots on the M13. But right now, the M19 and M7 are extremely hazardous.”
Motorists have been advised to travel only if necessary, and to take extra precautions on the roads. “Leave earlier if you must travel, and ensure your windscreen wipers and tyres are in good condition. Keep your headlights on for visibility and maintain a safe following distance,” Jamieson added.
With further rainfall expected, emergency services remain on high alert and are urging the public to stay updated on weather alerts and traffic conditions.
