At least 22 people were killed in a series of Israeli air strikes on Thursday, according to rescue teams and medical officials in Gaza, as Israel continues its renewed military campaign in the blockaded territory. The strikes, which included an attack on a family home and a former police station, come amid escalating violence following the collapse of a two-month ceasefire.
Gaza’s civil defence reported that a couple and their four children were killed when their home in northern Gaza City was flattened by an air strike. In another incident, nine people lost their lives and several others were injured when a former police station in the Jabalia area was struck. The casualties were taken to the nearby Indonesian hospital.
The Israeli military confirmed it had targeted what it described as a Hamas “command and control centre” in Jabalia, claiming it was used to plan and coordinate attacks against Israeli civilians and military forces. The army did not confirm whether this centre was located in the police station.
Elsewhere in Gaza, five people were killed when tents housing displaced residents were hit, and two more died following a strike on a home in Khan Yunis in the south of the Strip.
Since Israel resumed its operations on March 18, over 1,900 people have been killed, pushing the total death toll in Gaza to more than 51,300, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
The ongoing war was sparked by a Hamas-led attack on Israel in 2023, which left 1,218 people dead, most of them civilians, based on an AFP count using official Israeli data.
