The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 4 Warning for disruptive rain across most parts of KwaZulu-Natal, effective from 00:00 to 23:59 on Tuesday, 15 April 2025.

This significant warning indicates a high likelihood of heavy rainfall with moderate to major impacts expected across the province, excluding the north-eastern parts. According to SAWS, a surface high-pressure system ridging over the eastern parts of KZN—combined with a weak COL (cut-off low) system—has triggered this alert.

The unstable weather pattern is expected to deliver widespread showers and rain, particularly along the east coast, with rainfall accumulations between 30 to 60mm predicted through Tuesday. These conditions are expected to result in localised but significant impacts, especially in already vulnerable low-lying areas.

Anticipated Impacts Include:

  • Flooding of roads, bridges, and settlements.
  • Damage to property and infrastructure.
  • Mudslides and mud-based structural hazards.
  • Poor visibility and dangerous driving conditions.
  • Traffic disruptions, especially where routes become flooded or impassable.

Motorists and residents are urged to exercise extreme caution, avoid low-lying bridges, and stay informed via local radio stations and verified weather platforms.

SAWS encourages the public to monitor updates and take preventative measures to ensure safety. Visit www.weathersa.co.za for more information.
