The mystery surrounding the next James Bond remains unsolved, but Amazon MGM has assured fans that work is underway on the next installment of the franchise. Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, executives promised a "fresh" approach while staying true to the legacy of 007.
The event opened with the iconic Bond theme Goldfinger, heightening expectations, but little new information was revealed about the future of the beloved spy series.
Since 1962, the James Bond franchise has been closely guarded by the Broccoli family, making waves earlier this year when longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson sold creative control to Amazon MGM for a reported $1 billion. Many had hoped for updates at CinemaCon from the new producers, Amy Pascal (Spider-Man) and David Heyman (Harry Potter), but the duo was notably absent.
Amazon MGM executives Courtenay Valenti and Sue Kroll briefly addressed the franchise, stating, “We are committed to honoring the legacy of this iconic character while bringing a fresh, exotic new chapter to audiences around the world alongside Amy and David.” They added that Pascal and Heyman were in London, actively working on the project.
Speculation has been rife about potential prequels, spin-offs, and a new lead actor, with names like Chris Hemsworth frequently mentioned. However, CinemaCon focused more on Amazon MGM’s broader slate of upcoming films, including Ryan Gosling’s space thriller Project Hail Mary, Chris Pratt’s AI-driven action film Mercy, and Masters of the Universe.
Amazon MGM also emphasized its commitment to theatrical releases, planning to produce 15 films a year by 2027, with 14 already lined up for 2026.
For now, Bond fans will have to wait a little longer for any major revelations, but Amazon MGM insists the franchise’s next chapter is in the works.
