Protests are set to take place across the country today, demanding justice for a seven-year-old girl who was allegedly raped at Bergview College in the Eastern Cape. The case has sparked outrage among civil society organizations, who are calling on the school to handle the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
Reports indicate that the school’s principal has been accused of refusing to cooperate with the police during their investigation. However, lobby group AfriForum has come to the principal's defense, asserting that it was impossible for him to have been involved in the incident, as he was at a different campus at the time of the alleged crime.
Operation Dudula President, Zandile Dabula, is among those expected to participate in the protests. She expressed deep frustration, stating, “When it comes to our children, there is no justice. In the past two years, we’ve been burying our children due to poisonous snacks, and nothing has been done. No investigations, and parents are still waiting for answers.”
Dabula highlighted the continued suffering of children, emphasizing that justice has been elusive in these cases. “It’s especially heartbreaking that this girl’s mother has been fighting for justice on her own since October. It’s truly sad,” she added.
