Two former members of state security have been arrested on charges related to the misappropriation of nearly R6 million in state funds. The suspects, Ntshavheni Makhathana and Matome Ralebipi, made their first court appearance at the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Monday.

Makhathana was granted R100,000 bail, while Ralebipi was granted R150,000 bail.

In a statement, Henry Mamothame, spokesperson for the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), confirmed that both suspects face charges of theft for personal gain. The charges stem from the misuse of funds allocated to the State Security Agency (SSA) between 2007 and 2010.

The case has been postponed until June 23, with further legal proceedings expected.
