An Umzinto family remains in shock following the tragic murders of two sisters, Nandipha and Nangamso Lifana, who were shot and killed in their Lindelani township home.

The suspected gunman, known to the family, turned the weapon on himself after the attack. Their sister, Nombulelo Lifana, managed to escape and is still struggling to come to terms with the horrific events.

"I would have lost my life as well if I hadn't fought the suspect. I tried to take the gun away from him, then I pushed him and ran outside," she recounted. "That is when a neighbor intervened, telling him to stop. He then turned the gun on her and opened fire."

Authorities say Nombulelo is recovering in hospital.

Sunday’s attack has reignited calls for stronger measures to combat gender-based violence, with activists urging swift action to protect vulnerable women and families.
