Members of Parliament have once again voiced concerns over the prolonged delays in granting security clearance to senior police officials. The issue resurfaced during a recent SAPS briefing on progress made in response to the Budgetary Review and Recommendation Reports.
MPs expressed frustration that top law enforcement officers continue to serve without finalized security clearances. Notably, National Police Commissioner Fanie Masemola held his position for nearly four years without the highest level of clearance.
“There are five major generals and ten brigadiers without security clearance. When will this be resolved? If they don’t get clearance, there must be consequences,” said DA MP Lisa Sickerling.
National Coloured Congress Leader Faizel Adams accused SAPS of evading accountability, questioning why top officials—including the deputy head of Crime Intelligence—lack proper vetting.
In response, Police Committee Chairperson Ian Cameron instructed SAPS to submit a written explanation addressing these concerns.
