Twenty-three South Africans have safely returned to the country after being rescued from Myanmar, where they were allegedly trafficked and forced to work in a scam operation.
The group was among 7,000 individuals from various countries who were lured to Thailand with promises of employment by a recruitment agency. However, upon arrival, they were transported against their will to Myanmar and coerced into working in fraudulent operations.
Authorities continue to investigate the syndicate behind the trafficking scheme, as efforts to rescue other victims remain ongoing.
