The South African Cabinet is investigating potential legal violations linked to misinformation campaigns conducted by labour union Solidarity, Afrikaner advocacy group AfriForum, and their allies.

Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, made the announcement during a media briefing in Pretoria on Thursday, following Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting.

To counter the spread of misinformation, Ntshavheni revealed that the South African Police Service (SAPS) recently engaged with AfriForum regarding claims of a so-called “white genocide” linked to farm murders. The Afrikaner interest group acknowledged that official crime statistics released by the Minister of Police accurately reflect the reality, including incidents of farm-related crimes.

“It is common knowledge that some farm murders are committed by individuals known to the victims, including family members,” said Ntshavheni.

The minister also dismissed claims that 72,000 white farmers have applied to relocate to the United States following an alleged invitation by U.S. President Donald Trump.

“According to data from Statistics South Africa, the country has only 41,122 farming units, making it impossible for 72,000 farmers to leave South Africa,” she stated.

Cabinet is expected to continue monitoring and addressing misinformation campaigns that could impact public perception and national stability.
