The Department of Health has announced that its primary goal is to safeguard consumers by ensuring that cannabis-infused food products meet strict safety and quality standards.
Earlier this month, Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi published new regulations prohibiting the sale, importation, and manufacturing of food products containing cannabis.
The move has sparked backlash from industry bodies, who argue that hemp-based products, which contain minimal levels of THC, are safe for consumption. These groups contend that the regulations could stifle growth in the hemp industry despite the low risk associated with such products.
