A 34-year-old man accused of human trafficking is set to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court tomorrow morning following the discovery of a minor victim of trafficking.
According to Hawks spokesperson Siyabulela Vukubi, the young girl was screened and confirmed to be a victim of trafficking, and has since been placed in the care of social workers from the Department of Social Development for emergency placement.
The arrest occurred as part of a multi-disciplinary intelligence operation on March 12, 2025, involving the Hawks from Bellville and George, the Cape Town National Intervention Unit, and the Tactical Response Team.
The investigation traces back to September 2024 when the Hawks, along with officials from the Department of Home Affairs, conducted a raid on a suspected address in Plumstead, Cape Town. During the operation, twelve individuals were found on the premises, including five women who were identified as sex workers. The individual managing the brothel was arrested.
Vukubi confirmed that additional arrests are expected, stating that two traffickers had been identified, and warrants for their arrest had been authorized. A tracing operation led to the arrest of one of the suspects on March 12, 2025, and more arrests are imminent.
The accused will appear in court on March 14, 2025.
