KwaZulu-Natal remains under a double-storm warning until Friday, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay alert and limit travel, particularly later on Thursday.

Weather forecasters have issued a Level 4 alert for severe thunderstorms across most of the province, excluding the south-eastern and extreme north-eastern regions. In addition, an Orange Level 6 warning has been placed on disruptive rainfall expected from Thursday afternoon, with heavy downpours anticipated in the south-eastern areas.

eThekwini Municipality’s Gugu Sisilana confirmed that disaster management teams are on standby to respond to any emergencies.

"This weather warning includes the eThekwini region, with predictions indicating a high likelihood of heavy rains. Possible impacts include flooded roads and settlements, poor driving conditions, and damage to mud-based houses," said Sisilana.

Authorities are urging residents to exercise extreme caution, stay indoors where possible, and avoid unnecessary travel. The public has also been reminded not to attempt crossing rivers and streams, as rising water levels pose a serious risk.

The storm warnings remain in place until Friday, with officials closely monitoring the situation.
