The Joshlin Smith kidnapping trial took another dramatic turn yesterday, with testimony continuing to focus on the behavior of the missing girl’s mother, Kelly Smith, in the aftermath of her disappearance.
The court heard that Smith allegedly told police her daughter’s case had made her "famous." Smith, along with Jacquen Appollis and Steveno van Rhyn, is facing charges of kidnapping and human trafficking.
So far, multiple police officers who have taken the stand have testified that Smith appeared unusually calm when questioned about her daughter’s disappearance.
Proceedings were briefly adjourned as the court conducted an inspection in loco in Middelpos. However, tensions escalated when community members spotted Smith and her co-accused, reacting with visible anger and frustration.
The trial continues.
