The mother of an 11-year-old girl killed during a hijacking in Malvern has called for justice, urging authorities to ensure her daughter's death is not forgotten.
Zarah Ramsamy was fatally struck by armed carjackers outside a popular restaurant in September last year. What was meant to be a night of celebration turned into tragedy when the young girl, in a desperate attempt to hide, crawled under an SUV during the attack. The hijackers, seen driving off in footage circulated on social media, remain at large.
Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been made, with KwaZulu-Natal police confirming that the case is still under investigation.
Speaking to Newswatch, Zarah's mother, Shay, expressed frustration over the lack of progress.
“For the first two or three weeks, the police were here, but after that, everything went silent. No calls. No leads. Nothing. It’s heartbreaking," she said.
Shay vowed to keep speaking out, determined that her daughter's case does not become another statistic.
“How many families have to be destroyed before these criminals are caught? I don’t want anyone else to feel this pain,” she pleaded.
Authorities are yet to provide updates on potential leads, while the family continues to seek justice for Zarah.
