A 41-year-old man has been arrested in Yeoville, Johannesburg, in connection with an incident at the Zanzou nightclub in Pretoria.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers apprehended the suspect while on patrol after recognizing him from videos circulating on social media. After verifying his identity, he was detained at a local police station.
The suspect faces multiple charges, including compelled rape, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and crimen injuria. Authorities have also linked him to two cases registered at Brooklyn Police Station.
Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, hailed the arrest as a major breakthrough, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among law enforcement agencies.
“This is a true reflection of law enforcement agencies in Gauteng working together to realise the Police Ministerial Cooperation Agreement, which aims to enhance collaboration and coordination among all stakeholders in the region to address safety and security concerns effectively,” said Mthombeni.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, 24 February 2025.
