Residents and business owners in Verulam are reeling after a violent cash-in-transit heist in the CBD on Monday. Two security guards were attacked by heavily armed suspects wearing balaclavas on Todd Street.

An eyewitness, who owns a business in the area, described how two assailants entered a store pretending to be customers. "They were touching stock as if shopping, then suddenly went to the counter, attacked the guards, took the cash, and fled," he said.

The robbers drew their firearms, assaulted the security officers, and forcibly grabbed the money before escaping. One of the suspects was seen wearing municipal clothing as they fled the scene.

KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt for at least five suspects involved in the robbery.
