KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a massive manhunt for the gunmen involved in a violent cash-in-transit heist on the N2 near the NPC cement factory on Tuesday morning.
According to police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda, two security guards were assaulted and robbed of their firearms before the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“During the robbery, the suspects fired multiple shots, injuring three bystanders. They then escaped through the Bayview area and, on Silverglen Drive, shot and injured a private security guard who was pursuing them,” Netshiunda said.
As they attempted to hijack a minibus taxi, the suspects fired shots, killing one woman and injuring another pedestrian.
The N2, which was temporarily affected by the incident, has since reopened. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
