A traditional healer from northern KwaZulu-Natal and his two sons are expected to appear in court next week on charges of kidnapping and murder.

The 48-year-old healer, Khulekani Ngubane, and his sons, Sihle Zungu and Mduduzi Ngubane, were arrested over the weekend following the death of 28-year-old Thandazani Mngomezulu.

Mngomezulu’s death reportedly stemmed from a personal dispute. According to authorities, the healer and his sons accused Mngomezulu of harboring romantic feelings toward one of their girlfriends. He had also allegedly made disparaging remarks about Ngubane.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said the victim was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

"Ngubane, along with his two sons, went to Mngomezulu's home in the Qwakini area of Mtubatuba on December 15, 2024. They reportedly forced him to their residence, where he was tied to a tree, and the father assaulted him," said Netshiunda.

Community members eventually intervened, pleading with Ngubane to stop the assault. However, the injuries Mngomezulu sustained proved fatal. After several days in an Empangeni hospital, he succumbed to his wounds.

The case has sparked outrage in the community, with residents calling for justice for Mngomezulu. Police investigations are ongoing.
