The N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) has announced that it anticipates a significant increase in traffic heading into KwaZulu-Natal starting Friday and continuing through the weekend as Christmas approaches. In response, authorities are ramping up efforts to ensure safety on the busy route.
High police visibility will be maintained along the N3, with operations including stop-and-searches and drug and alcohol screenings. Motorists are being urged to exercise caution and drive responsibly.
Thania Dhoogra, spokesperson for the N3TC, highlighted the alarming rise in road accidents on the route, attributing over 80% of crashes to human error.
“More than 80% of all crashes on the N3 Toll Route are the result of human error, including driver negligence, distractions, speeding, recklessness, fatigue, and/or an aggressive driving style,” said Dhoogra.
She emphasized the avoidable nature of these incidents, urging drivers to obey traffic laws and prioritize safety. “The consequences of these human errors are far-reaching and could be largely avoided by obeying traffic laws, paying attention, and driving responsibly – to save lives rather than a few minutes of your time,” she added.
