The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has warned that it may take legal action against those who owe it approximately R1 billion, including state entities, government departments, and municipalities.
SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago emphasized the importance of recouping these funds to enable the unit to continue fulfilling its duties effectively. While the SIU is still pursuing diplomatic efforts to recover the money, some municipalities have argued that they should not be required to pay for investigations they did not request.
Kganyago noted that the reasons given for non-payment vary, but the SIU is committed to recovering the owed amounts to sustain its operations.
