The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has concluded its investigation into allegations linking a Namibian-produced porridge to the deaths of three children in the Eastern Cape, finding no evidence of contamination.
Pheto Ntaba, NCC spokesperson, confirmed that tests conducted on the batches of Top Score Vanilla Instant Porridge revealed no safety issues. A product recall had been issued in September after the children from Buffalo City reportedly consumed the porridge shortly before falling ill.
The investigation determined that the manufacturer, Namib Mills, complied with all food quality and safety standards.
"Our investigation focused on whether the manufacturer had violated provisions of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and ensuring any risks associated with the supply of potentially harmful products were mitigated," Ntaba stated.
With no violations found, the findings clear Namib Mills of any wrongdoing, bringing closure to the case.
