The taxi strike in Durban has entered its eighth day, driven by long-distance operators protesting over permits and the impounding of taxis. However, the industrial action is facing criticism from other taxi associations, which claim the strike is severely impacting their businesses.

Key stakeholders, including the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) and KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Siboniso Duma, have called for operators to return to work while discussions continue to address concerns, particularly over excluded routes on permits.

Talks between taxi associations and the KwaZulu-Natal government are ongoing as efforts intensify to resolve the impasse and minimize disruption to commuters and businesses reliant on the taxi industry.
