Cabinet has defended President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent Cabinet reshuffle amid widespread public criticism. On Tuesday evening, Ramaphosa announced that Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi would take over Thembi Simelane’s Justice and Constitutional Development portfolio, while Simelane was reassigned to Kubayi’s former role.

The reshuffle has sparked debate, with many questioning its purpose and impact.

Addressing the media at Parliament on Wednesday, Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni emphasized that such decisions fall solely under the President’s authority.

“The appointment, disappointment, removal, or movement of ministers is entirely the President's prerogative,” Ntshavheni stated. “Cabinet does not discuss these matters. It is a direct conversation between the President and the Minister involved.”

Despite the criticism, Cabinet maintained that the reshuffle aligns with the President's vision for effective governance.
