A deputy principal from Northview High School in Balfour, north of Johannesburg, is in critical condition after being shot six times in his office on Tuesday.
The attackers reportedly entered the school premises under the pretense of delivering a quotation for tree felling. Once inside, they carried out the shooting and fled the scene.
Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona expressed the department’s outrage over the incident, stating:
"We are deeply shocked by this brazen act of violence, which will not be tolerated in our environment. We are working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice."
Police investigations are underway as authorities seek to apprehend those responsible. The department has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of staff and students in the wake of this alarming incident.
