SABC News Executive Moshoeshoe Monare Resigns

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has announced the resignation of its Group Executive for News and Current Affairs, Moshoeshoe Monare. Monare will officially step down at the end of December 2024.

Monare, who joined the public broadcaster on June 1, 2022, has been credited with steering the News and Current Affairs division during a pivotal time for the SABC.

In a statement, the SABC highlighted his leadership during significant projects, including the comprehensive coverage of the 2024 National Elections. The broadcaster praised the election coverage as thorough, impartial, and in line with its Editorial Code and Policies, reflecting its critical role in South Africa’s democracy.

SABC Group CEO Nomsa Chabeli lauded Monare’s contributions, stating:

Monare’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the SABC, as it prepares for a transition in leadership within its news division.
