eThekwini Municipality has announced that it expects all 23 beaches in the city to be open for bathing by this weekend. Currently, 21 of the beaches are accessible to the public.

Investigations are ongoing to identify the source of pollution at the two temporarily closed beaches. Nkosenhle Madlala, spokesperson for the municipality, assured residents and visitors that teams are working diligently to meet the deadline.

With the festive season approaching, the municipality is preparing for an influx of approximately 1.3 million visitors. "We are optimistic about the upcoming holidays and are working around the clock to monitor and ensure the quality of water at our beaches, so bathers can enjoy clean, safe waters," Madlala said.
