President Cyril Ramaphosa is confident that eThekwini can be revitalized and restored to its former stature as a key hub for tourism and business. Speaking on Thursday in response to questions from the National Council of Provinces, Ramaphosa highlighted the significant progress made by the presidential eThekwini working group, which was formed earlier this year.

The working group, established in February following discussions with the Durban Chamber of Commerce and various social partners, is focused on addressing the city's service delivery challenges. Ramaphosa noted that the group is making strides in tackling issues such as ageing infrastructure, water shortages, and low business confidence.

“The work being done is beginning to yield positive results, and we are on track to return Durban to its rightful place as the tourism capital of our nation,” said Ramaphosa. He emphasized the collective efforts of key stakeholders and multiple levels of government in driving the city's recovery.
